Visual Narratives

In this lesson, we were creating Visual Narratives, from completely different images.

We had to draw two environments, someones head, a hand and and object.

After finishing our drawing, we printed copies of them and made scenarios.

My choice of drawing were:

A school corridor

A bottle of water

A fist

A classroom

My teacher

My final creations were:

A hand opening a bottle of water in the basketball court

A secret agent prepared to fight in a corridor

And a Teacher in the classroom with an arrow showing his movement

With this exerciser, I realised, that it is very helpful to vary and try things differently. It was very pleasuring to make scenarios by adding some details, to what I already had drawn. It could be very helpful to get inspiration and ideas, as well to understand about the Visual Narrative more.

On the other side, it was very challenging, due to time restriction and quality of the drawing.

Camera Shots

Today, we were talking about different camera shot and how it is important to understand them.

To make a good film or video clip mean to have well prepared camera shot, different angles and perfectly visualised scenario. That is why, we were given a task to make different camera thorough the University.

1. Close-up (?CU)

2. Medium Shot (MU)

3. Long Shot

4. Pan Shot

5. Tilt Shot

6. 'Dutch angle' tilted shot

7. Tracking Shot

The first Picture is an CU shot, the next one below - MS, Then long shot, and the rest is on the video, that I made while filming the University.

This exercise was very useful to understand more about the camera angles and their importance in the movies and other video clips.

Assignment 1: Storyboard

My Storyboard is going to be based on the Roald Dahl's story 'Lamb to the Slaughter'.

Briefly, it is a short story about a married couple. Happy wife and in reverse unhappy husband.

One day, Marie (main female character) is told by her husband that he wants to divorce. Unconsciously, the woman grabs a frozen lambs leg and kills her husband. The pregnant women decides to hide all the evidence and cook the lambs leg, when the police arrives, she offers them a dinner and that is how evidence is being destroyed.

The picture on the left was my first step before doing a storyboard. Since most action has been indoors (house), the house plan helped a lot to understand where my characters will be, how the environment will look and what will be seen in the shot and what not.

This is my short shot plan for my Storyboard.
