Intro to Nuke/Week 1
NUKE
First week, we were looking into the NUKE workspace.
We were explained the benefits of having nodal system and we were familiarised with some of the nodes.
The 'Black Window' is our viewer (Purple star), window below is where we create and view our nodes (yellow star) and the side bar is 'the settings bar' (Blue star).

We looked up at the setting bar and readjusted some of the settings, experimented with some effects and values.
We looked up at the 'Alpha channel', which can be activated by pressing 'A' in the viewer bar.

Alpha Channel

Some of the short keys:
1. F- to frame up
2. L- move timeline forward
3. J- move timeline backward
4. Alt+arrow - jump to beginning or finish of the timeline
5. S - settings
6. H - zooms to the borders
7. Space Bar - Enlarges the screen
Picture on the right was showing different types of the picture formats and why .dpx is the best.

Basic and more complex ROTO / Week 2/3
This week we looked up at the very basic ROTO.
Some of the shortcuts to remember:
1. T - Transform
2. G- grade
3. M - merge
4. K - copy
5. B - blur
6. O - roto
7. P - paint
Basic technique that helps to get rid of unwanted bits or to 'crop' objects in the images or videos.
Some tips:
1.Advisable to use Wacom tablet when rooting.
2.Always have footage with same fps.
3.To Export -> press W (write node)
In this session, we created a different root shapes for a palm,
We divided them into a different section, so it would be easier to move and scale while in the video.
We also used different colours for each section.
File -> Copy node -> root where we create our roots) -> prebuilt (to connect everything together)

Rotoing Tims hand.
Basic and more advanced keying / Week 4/5
In these sessions we looked at the Luma key, Keying, Chroma Keying and Garbage Matt.
1. Luma key -> Intensity of brightness of a given pixel.
2. Shift + x -> to switch between "A" and "B" Nodes
3.B - Blur
4. Chroma keying -> mostly used for green/blue screens
5.Garbage matt -> removing unneccesary stuff in the scene
6. Noise -> grains that can be seen in the image or video
7.Erode -> Eats away one of the cooler channels.
8. Despill -> helps to get rid of the 'spill' of the green/blue screen on the objects.
In this task, we were looking into the alpha channel.
We were cleaning up the bits in between the trees and replacing the sky.
For that, we used Keyer node.
With this task, we were looking into the Keylight node and IBKGizmo and IBKColour nodes.
We were keying the green screen, tried to clean up the scene and recover the lost hair detail of a young lady.
We added a different background, merged nodes and colour corrected the background and foreground colours.
This scene, from Alice from a Wonderland was a little more complex, since it have different hue green screens in the scene.
By using multiply ROTO nodes and multiple keying nodes, we managed to get rid of the green screen, recover lost detail and prepare the scene for a further work.

Grading Exercise. (Green Screen Removal + Despill).
Tracking / Week 6/7
In the first tracking session, we used 2 point tracking technique.
In this task, we were looking, how to erase the shop logo at the back of the scene.
We had to track the logo, make a patch, grade it and roto the patch to match the scene.
Grading / Week 9
This week, we were looking at grading and coloring.
We had a scene with different pieces (shown on the left), to grade and scale everything together and make it into a one scene.
Grade everything in the end, to have matching color shade in the scene.

Final Scene

These are other grading and coloring exercises that we did. With the lady, we tried to match the scene colors, to look it more realistic.
With a room, we graded the room color and lightning.
Clean-up
In this session, we were looking at the marker clean up, patching and denoising.
In this exercise, we were tracking and rotopainting the logo, using patch to cover it and regaining the lost shadow of the arm.
Week 12
In this session, we were remembering everything we have done this semester.
In this exercise, we were removing green screen, markers, all the equipment and adding a random background (in this case - chequer board)
Removing and replacing the logo.
